Bafana Bafana have partnered with two of South Africa’s trusted personal care brands, Shield and Vaseline, in a new powerful partnership under the banner of “The Ultimate Defence.”

South Africa’s national men’s football team, Bafana Bafana, has partnered with popular personal care brands Shield and Vaseline in a campaign called “The Ultimate Defence.”
The partnership aims to celebrate resilience, preparation, and national pride – values shared by the brands and the team.
Gareth Marshall, Sponsorship Lead at Unilever Southern Africa, said: “This partnership represents a powerful alignment between our brands and the passion points that truly resonate with South Africans. Both Shield and Vaseline stand for protection, performance and everyday care – just like Bafana Bafana on the field.”
The campaign focuses on telling the stories behind the team – their preparation, setbacks, and triumphs – to encourage South Africans to support the squad emotionally and culturally.
Lydia Monyepao, CEO of the South African Football Association, welcomed the initiative: “This partnership reinforces the professionalism and preparedness of our national team – both on and off the pitch. We welcome brands like Shield and Vaseline, who understand the deep cultural significance of football in South Africa.”
The launch event took place at Safe-Hub in Soweto, a community space that uses football to inspire young people. The event showcased pre-match preparation, recovery, and the drive to keep moving – symbolising the resilience of both footballers and everyday South Africans.
Through the campaign, Shield offers confidence to move freely, while Vaseline provides protection and care for the skin. Together, they promote resilience and the ability to keep going, on and off the field.
