WHO IS FERRÉ GOLA?
Born Hervé Gola Bataringe on 3 March 1976 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ferré Gola’s musical journey began in the streets of the Congolese capital before he was discovered by music icon Werrason in 1995 and recruited into the legendary group Wenge Musica.
His breakout moment came with the single “Vita-Imana” from the iconic album Solola Bien! (1999), which was named Song of the Year by the Association des Chroniqueurs de Musique du Congo.
After his tenure with Wenge Musica Maison Mère and a stint with Koffi Olomidé’s Quartier Latin International, Ferré launched his solo career in 2006 with the debut album Sens Interdit.
Albums such as Qui est derrière toi? (2009) and Boîte Noire (2013), featuring beloved tracks like “Vie à Zero” and “Tucheze”, cemented his status as one of the defining voices of Congolese rumba.
Affectionately called “Le Padre”, “Jésus de Nuances”, and “Chair de Poule” by devoted fans, he is equally known as “The Melody Maker” for his ability to craft emotionally layered compositions that blend soukous rhythms with soulful depth.
In 2023, he made history as the first Congolese artist to sell out the Accor Arena in Paris, a milestone that underlined his massive global following.
He has since released Harmonie (2023), adding to a catalogue that has earned him multiple MTV Africa Music Awards and Kora Awards. Signed to Sony Music since 2022, Ferré Gola’s reach continues to grow, and Johannesburg is next.
