Amid the activity, Albertine Mkhosi, owner of Hibon Lodge, took a moment to speak with us while seated at her exhibition stand, sharing insights into what makes her four-star lodge, located in the heart of the Magaliesberg, a standout destination.
Hibon Lodge, a serene getaway situated just 15 minutes from Magaliesburg and easily accessible from Johannesburg and Pretoria, prides itself on offering a range of services for both leisure and business travellers. “We are known as the heart of Magaliesberg,” Mkhosi said, highlighting the lodge’s expansive 50,000-hectare land and its wide range of offerings, from luxurious accommodation to conferencing, weddings, and even in-room spa treatments. When asked about how the event was going, Mkhosi reflected on the quieter atmosphere compared to last year’s event. “It’s been very quiet compared to last year, but we still have another day to conquer,” she said optimistically. “I’m looking forward to seeing more feet come across.”
The Travel Indaba, Mkhosi explained, is an important marketing tool for small businesses like hers. “As a small business with just 28 rooms, you’re competing with larger organisations that have been in the industry for years,” she said. “But events like this allow us to get our brand out there and show the world what we offer.”
Looking ahead, Mkhosi is targeting international markets, particularly those in China, India, and Europe. “We’ve put forward invitations to the Chinese delegation, but we haven’t seen them yet. We’re hoping they’ll show up in the coming days,” she said. She also mentioned her successful experience at the World Travel Market (WTM) last year, where she expanded Hibon Lodge’s reach to the European market.
